You would think having Frank Sinatra as a father would make it a little easier to get into the record business, but Nancy released quite a few singles that went nowhere on the charts (many available now on the Bubblegum Girl albums, see Music section below), before she finally hit with "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'", originally written for a male singer (cowboy boots??). With the help of producer Lee Hazelwood, Nancy's image was immediately transformed to that of a world-wise tough girl, not necessarily a rocker, but pretty hard-edged for a Vegas chick! She went on to have quite a few hits, including a few duets with Hazelwood and some interesting pop tunes, one of my favorites being the theme from the James Bond film, You Only Live Twice.

Nancy's connection with Elvis began when he stepped off the plane from Germany on March 3, 1960. She was there at McGuire Air Force Base as the official greeter. They both appeared on the Frank Sinatra TV special, "Welcome Home, Elvis" on May 12th. Eight years later they made Speedway together, and Nancy (as IRS agent Susan Jacks) sang "Your Groovy Self", as well as the duet with Elvis, "There Ain't Nothin' Like a Song". These songs both appeared on the soundtrack album, making Nancy the only artist to make a guest-appearance on an Elvis album during his lifetime. (Several of the Ann-Margret songs have appeared since his death.) During the filming of Speedway, Elvis and Priscilla learned that Priscilla was pregnant with Lisa Marie. Nancy gave Priscilla her baby shower.

Nancy has written two books about her famous father, Frank Sinatra: My Father and Frank Sinatra: An American Legend 1915-1998. Her tribute CD single, "For My Dad", also contains their hit duet, "Something Stupid", from 1966.
